The Aethalometer AE-36 is designed for advanced aerosol research and regulatory monitoring. Its 7-wavelength operation (UV–IR) allows for precise measurement of aerosol optical absorption, with 1 Hz data resolution. Built upon Aerosol Magee Scientific’s proven DualSpot™ technology, the AE-36 compensates in real time for the filter loading effect, ensuring high-quality continuous measurements.
AE-36 also includes real-time source apportionment for Black Carbon from fossil fuel and biomass combustion sources. The instrument is fully ACTRIS-approved, meeting stringent standards for atmospheric research networks.
A robust set of diagnostics and QA/QC tools, including neutral density optical filters and remote calibration routines, makes AE-36 suitable for both fixed monitoring stations and mobile deployments.

Measurement Principle
Similar to the AE-33, the AE-36 draws aerosol-laden air through a filter tape, measuring light absorption across 7 wavelengths. DualSpot™ technology eliminates the filter loading effect, providing corrected real-time data. Advanced optics and flow systems ensure precise measurement of aerosol concentration and composition.
